Pitched roofs are downward sloping roofs, made usually in two parts at an angle from a central ridge. A pitched roof can, however, be made in one single part, from edge to edge. The difference between a pitched roof and a flat roof is due to the pitch of a roof which is the vertical rise divided by the span of its horizontal and is a measure of how steep it is. A flat roof is a roof with a slope less than 10°, but in the main are much less a gradient than that.
The primary ways that pitched roofs are made are firstly cut roof and secondly russ roof. Cut roofs are wooden and built up with purlins, joists, rafters and ridge boards. Russ roofs are made with prefabricated russes.
